Artek is a Finnish design company, founded in Helsinki in 1935 by four young idealists: Alvar and Aino Aalto, Maire Gullichsen, and Nils-Gustav Hahl. Their goal was “to sell furniture and to promote a modern culture of living by exhibitions and other educational means.” In keeping with the radical spirit of its founders, Artek today remains an innovative player in the world of modern design, developing new products at the intersection of design, architecture, and art. Our common goal

Artek is looking for an entrepreneurial new team leader for the product team consisting of product managers, designers and engineers (5 FTE), who strongly identifies with Artek’s brand values and has a genuine passion for its product portfolio, mainly based on wood.

Artek is managed as an independent brand, with dedicated teams for product development & management as well as brand marketing. To keep the Artek Global team an independent entity across two locations, a strong sense of identity and dedicated leadership are prerequisites for both teams.

 

What you can expect

  • Cultivate the existing product portfolio of Classics and contemporary designs through continuous improvement and drive new product developments (re-editions and new designs) to ensure Artek’s commercial relevance and growth.
  • Steer the product development pipeline and market introduction timeline
  • Accompany and manage own development projects
  • Manage tasks and responsibilities of the Artek product team
  • Work with the Operations team on a consistent approach to Artek’s supply chain
  • Collaborate with Vitra’s R&D teams to benefit from synergies
  • Closely collaborate with Artek’s marketing team to successfully bring products to market
  • Budget responsibility

 

How you can convince

  • Bachelor’s/master’s degree or comparable education in business, product design or technical education with commercial dimension
  • Leadership experience in a multi-cultural context
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Structured and analytical thinking
  • Confident and precise communication skills in English, German beneficial
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with a hands-on mentality
  • Interest in design and craft, knowledge of the competitive market environment of premium furniture
  • Experience with or interest in wood manufacturing of advantage
